Bengkung Belly Binding
Bengkung belly binding is the traditional Malaysian art of wrapping a postpartum woman’s belly to provide physical support and assist the healing process after childbirth. This technique uses a long strip of cloth that is wrapped around the abdomen from the hips to the rib cage. For best results, a woman should be wrapped as soon as possible after birth. Ideally this would be between 3-5 days postpartum. In the case of C-section, women should wait until the incision is healed, at least two weeks postpartum. The bind should be worn daily for 8-10 hours a day for 30 days or longer. Often women who use a belly bind after birth return to their own pre-pregnancy size in 6-8 weeks.
